Forfeiting the Grace - grace vs. ten commandments: Is there any conflict?
Delivered by ASE Joseph Olorunnisola, October 15, 2006.
“For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, lest any one should boast.” Eph. 2: 8-9. The gospel of free grace continues to fill the air – the radio, TV, print media, pulpit in churches, and various pavilion of evangelism. It is the free gift of God. No work is required. But is it available to everyone? YES. Is everyone entitled to it? NO!!!. It is a reservation for only those who confess with their mouths the Lord Jesus and believe in their hearts that God had raised Him from the dead. They are the only ones that are entitled to Christ’s redemptive grace. Romans 10:9. Are all those who are entitled to it, having confessed Jesus with their mouths, will truly be saved? NO!!!. Only those whose confession and faith in Christ are anchored on obedience to the word/commandments of GOD. ”But why do you call me Lord, Lord, and not do the things which I say? Luke 6:46.
Most servants of God care only to expose the beautiful roses without warning hearers about the protective thorns around the roses. Most messages are partially given, the second half which is critical for the salvation of hearers are often, unfortunately, withheld. Consequently, a number of Christians believe that they are already saved, when in fact, they are doomed by their activities for eternal hell fire. The Grace of the Lord Jesus Christ is indeed free but certainly not cheap. Or are you still ignorantly believing that God’s sacrifice of His son on the Cross of Calvary constitutes His signature of approval for your continued indulgence in idolatry, adultery, fornication, murder, drug abuse, covetousness, stealing, lying, homosexuality, and other perversions for which the consuming wrath of God is reserved? “What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sins that grace may abound? God forbid. How shall we that are supposed to be dead to sin, live any longer therein.” Romans 6:1-2.
Do not be deceived by any cheap gospel, God Almighty had spoken: “See I have set before thee this day life and good, and death, and evil; In that I command thee this day to love the Lord thy God, to walk in His ways, and to keep His commandments, and His Statutes, and His judgment, that thou mayest live and multiply …………I call heaven and earth to record this day against you, that I have set before you life and death, blessing, and cursing: therefore, choose life, that both thou and thy seed may live.” Deut. 30: 15-20. Truly I say unto you that you must observe the ten commandments of God, and reflect the application in your lifestyle if you must escape the end-time condemnation into eternal hell that burns with fire and brimstone. God Almighty has not changed. “For I am the Lord, I change not …..” Mal. 3:6.
And Jesus Christ, the author and giver of the saving grace says in Matth. 5: 17-18 “Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfill. For verily I say unto you, till heaven and earth pass, one jot, or title shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled”. Evidently, Jesus Christ has come to teach us how to live a righteous life – by fulfilling the commandments of God the Father and not to erase the laws for human lawlessness, irresponsible behavior, or recklessness.
This apparent paradox is reconciled further by both Gal. 3: 23-26, and 1Tim1:10.
Apostle Paul in Galatia 3 teaches, “But before faith came, we were kept under the law, shut up unto the faith which should afterwards be revealed. Wherefore, the law was our schoolmaster to bring us unto Christ that we might be justified by faith. But after that faith is come we are no longer under a schoolmaster. For ye are all the children of God by faith in Christ Jesus”. If the law is therefore, our schoolmaster to bring us unto Christ, it is evident that the commandments are intended to be infused, inculcated and injected into us to conform us to the image of Christ in all our lifestyles. A Christian whose lifestyle does not reflect observance of God’s commandments cannot be one of His own. “He that has my commandments, and keep them, he it is that loveth me, and he that loveth me shall be loved by my Father, and I will love him, and will manifest myself to him.” John 14:21.
Listen again to what apostle Paul has to say in 1 Tim.1:8-10. “But we know that the law is good if a man use it lawfully; knowing this that the law is not made for a righteous man, but for the lawless, and disobedient, for the ungodly, and for sinners, for unholy and for profane, for murderers, idolaters, adulterous, pervasive, for whoremongers, for the homosexuals, for thieves, kidnappers, liars, perjured persons, and if there be any other thing that is contrary to sound doctrine”. The summation of the whole message is that if you are still practising any of the above you are still under law and NOT under grace. “Therefore, if any man be in Christ (under redemptive grace) he is a new creature, old things are passed away, behold, all things are become new.” 2 Cor. 5:17. Those who remain on the righteous track to the end will have their dwelling in the new Jerusalem. “And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes, and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away.” “But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death.” Rev.21.
Fortunately, it is not too late yet, repent today from all works of darkness and sin; accept Jesus Christ and His righteousness into your life and you will be saved. Don’t be deceived by the glamour of civilization, and the emptiness of the modern time. It is just for a short while. Your eternity is the most crucial. You are warned!!!
May the Lord bless you as you find time to read this message. Happy Sabbath.
I thank you all for listening.
