The Name of the Lord – A Strong Tower
Delivered by ASE Joseph Olorunnisola, February 18, 2007.
“The name of the Lord is a strong tower: the righteous runneth unto it and is safe.” Prov. 18:10. Have you ever experienced the works of demons in your sleep? How many times have you seen them chasing you, throwing you off the bridge, trying to force into you food and drink of terminal disease? How many times have you seen them touching your stomach to make you barren or to neutralize your pregnancy; to involve you in auto accident or frighten you with dangling coffins. Even while awake, they are capable of inflicting on you light and heavy headedness, unusual palpitations, unusual mental melancholy, spiritual incitement, uncontrollable exasperation, mental and physical disorder.
Sometimes they come as snakes, dogs, cats, birds- bats, and even human. The mask of your loved ones is sometimes used to deceive you and create suspicion and disaffection between you and the loved ones. They are agents of darkness – evil spirits, witches, wizards, occultists, principalities, powers and rulers of the dark world. They are forces of spiritual wickedness who derive their joy and pleasure from the sorrow and misery of the children of God. But if you are truly of Christ, they can only bark, they cannot bite you.
Lucifer rebelled and was thrown out of Heaven with his cohorts – Rev. 12:7 – creating the kingdom of darkness. These angels of darkness- demons, witches, wizards and other agents of Lucifer are scary and ruthless. They prowl up and down the corridors of life with baskets of misfortune, sorrow, penury, stagnation, litigation, accidents, untimely death, illness…etc to attack children of God, upset the plan of God in the lives of the ungodly and consume lovers of pleasure whose lives are without Christ. 1 Pet. 5:8, II Cor. 11:14 They are vicious, dreadful, ruthless, very powerful and unsparing. They create chaos at schools, disaster on the roads and sorrow at homes. You cannot confront them or survive their siege unless Jesus Christ is strongly evident in your life. And Jesus came and spake unto them saying, “All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth”: Matth. 28:18 Only the power of the blood of Jesus Christ can destroy these agents of darkness and set their plans and weapons of wickedness against you, on fire. Only He, that is in true believers is greater than he that is in the world.” (That is Satan) 1 John 4:4
But how can Jesus Christ be strongly evident in you to be able to confront and subjugate these diabolical agents of darkness? For the battle is not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of darkness of this world. Apostle Paul in Ephesians 6:11-18 admonishes that believers should put on the entire armor of God. Not partial but the whole armor of God. What is the make-up of this armor? It is spelt out by Paul himself.
First, you must have accepted Jesus Christ into your life as your Lord and Savior. Keeping God’s commandments and worshipping Him in truth and holiness. The armor of God is certainly not available for unbelievers.
Second: the loin of truth; is the knowledge of the truth of God’s word. Uprightness in all circumstances and at all times. Your entire personality is anchored on your uprightness, your integrity is the core thing, once your integrity is in question, there is nothing more that is dependable in you. You must be incorruptible, straight, strong- character, and upright to be a soldier of Christ.
Third: Breastplate of righteousness: soldiers put on a breastplate of iron against enemies’ arrow and shots. As a soldier of Christ, you must put on a breastplate of righteousness – a holy character, sound moral behavior, bosom of mercy and heart of charity – giving to the church, the destitute, the needy and the less-privileged. If you don’t give, you will be diminishing. If you don’t give, when you call upon God in time of trouble, He may not listen. Prov. 21:13, Psm 41, Psm 50:14-15.
Fourth: Put on your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace. Soldiers of the world wear special boots that enable them to advance against the enemies – Believers also must have on their feet, a sense of eagerness to advance the gospel of peace, deliverance and salvation. Christians must have the courage, the strong faith and determination to advance against Satan, trusting that He that is in them is greater than he that is in the world. The courage and strong heart will free a believer from fear and anxiety when confronted with problems – For God has not given us the spirit of fear, put of power and of love and of sound mind. II Tim 1:7 We would see the demons operate around us, but they will not have any dominion over us.
Fifth: Taking the shield of faith to quench the fiery darts of Satan: You must have an unflinching faith in the promise of God. He has assured you in Psm 91 “Because thou has made the Lord your refuge, even the most high you habitation, there shall no evil befall thee, neither shall any plague come near your dwelling…thou shall tread upon the lion and adder. You were further assured in Isa. 54:17, that no weapon fashioned against you shall ever prosper and every tongue that rise against you in judgment shall be condemned. The entire bible is full of assurances of security for children of God; the righteous blood of Christ also remains an impenetrable rock and fortress for all true believers.
Sixth: The helmet of Salvation. As a Christian your overriding focus should be the salvation of your soul. Demons are at work to frighten you to seek help from herbalists, chic’s and other workers of darkness, so that your salvation could be lost. You must be strong and determined. That which you need from God cannot be stopped. Just believe.
Seventh: The Sword of the Spirit. Believers must learn to feast on the Bible – the living Word of God. If you attack Satan with this word in your violent prayer he will flee from you. Live on the Word of God, be a strong prayer warrior, surrender your life to the righteousness of God by worshipping Him, obeying His commands, giving out of your substance unto God and the less privileged and be an unwavering believer. You will win.
