I was just having a little discussion with some friends about what’s right or wrong for Christians to do. The discussion about music and hanging out with non Christians came up. As soon as that came up, I remember this verse, “Do not allow what you consider good to be spoken of as evil. For the Kingdom of God is not a matter of eating or drinking, but of righteousness, peace and joy in the Holy Spirit.” –Romans 14:7-18. However, if you read further down in this chapter, “So whatever you believe about theses things, keep between yourself and God. Blessed is the man who does not condemn himself by what he approves. But the man who has doubts is condemned if he eats, because his eating is not from faith; and everything that does not come from faith is sin.”
What is my point? Well, when it comes to things that are not outlined in the Bible as sin, personal convictions come into play. Paul says it best, “Everything is permissible –but not everything is beneficial.” I am not going to say that its wrong to do this or to do that, I am only going to say that anything that gets in the way of your Christian walk is bad. Something may be okay for me, and not okay for you, and this is where personal convictions come in. If your spirit convicts you against something, stay away from it.
Whatever you do, do it to the glory of God, and if anything is pulling you away from your service, cut it off. If this means throwing away all your secular music, cutting of that partner or those friends, quitting that job, etc. God wants us to serve him wholeheartedly, but at the same time he is not calling us to be God. Everything is permissible, but not everything is beneficial. Use Godly wisdom in the choices you make and make sure it is beneficial to your relationship with God before everything else..
“As one who is in the Lord Jesus, I am fully convinced that no food (or nothing) is unclean in itself. But if anyone regards something as unclean, then for him it is unclean,”
“Whether you turn to the right or to the left, your ears will hear a voice behind you saying, “This is the way; walk in it.” –Isaiah 30:21
Listen to that voice, it is your personal conviction, so heed to its instructions. Don’t go by what someone else does! The Kingdom of Heaven is about me and God, not me and my friends and God, we are going before his throne of judgment as individuals, so lets learn to live and grow as individuals. Continue to encourage each other and not judge, and remember that it all comes down to personal convictions.
Stay blessed in the Lord and remember the less privileged
